HAVE YOUR SAY: The 2014 F1 season’s top driver

2014 was quite the year. Dubbed ‘silly season’, the strangest conspiracy theories and rumours have consumed Formula 1 discussions, making it one of the most unusual in living memory.

The results may simply suggest 19 races of Mercedes dominance but Valtteri Bottas, Daniel Ricciardo and Daniil Kvyat have all made an impression this year. From Felipe Massa’s pole position in Austria, to Sergio Perez’s podium in Bahrain and Jules Bianchi’s Monaco points scoring heroics, it was a year of fierce competition across the grid.

In 2015, just three teams will retain their previous line up and the existence of both Caterham and Marussia are unclear at present. Sebastian Vettel will end a 15 year affiliation with Red Bull to join the prancing horses at Ferrari and a new McLaren-Honda era awaits.

As we look ahead to the start of the season in March, ‘stoodonthepodium’  invites you to vote for your favourite F1 driver of 2014. The drivers listed in this poll finished in the top five positions at the close of the season but feel free to vote for another of your choosing if you prefer.

The results will be announced exactly a week from today on January 2nd 2015, a suitable way to conclude the highs and lows of another racing year. Until next time, #ForzaJules!

  1. Hi Katie,

My vote is for Valtteri Bottas, here’s my (brief) reasons for nominating him:

    1. Highly consistent racer, with 17 point scoring finishes, proving he can keep his cool and bring the car home.
    2. Podium finishes in Austrian, British, German, Belgian, Russian and Abu Dhabi grand prix’s.
    3. Beat Massa 13 to 6 in qualifying, although I’ve never thought Massa was a great qualifier.
    4. An all round nice guy, even remembering to congratulate Massa on his 200th grand prix at Silverstone and saying how he wished his team mate could have had a better result on his milestone race.

    Keep up the great work

    • Hi Kris,

Many thanks for your vote and the explaination. Bottas will only get stronger so let’s see how he performs in 2015. Perhaps those podiums could even become wins?

See you on the 2nd January for the results, it’s a close one!
